Coyote R&D is the brainchild of one Mike W. Smith.
Coyote R&D has existed in one form or another for the last 14 years, developing MIDI and music technology products for such companies as MIDIMan/M-Audio, Alesis, and MIDICyms. Along the way we've detoured into developing Internet/network applications, drivers, and multi-platform, multi-lingual software products for various companies. But our hearts have always been in developing music related products.
Over the last several years, as software synthesizers/samplers have become more and more powerful, there was a growing awareness that the average PC platform was just not the optimum configuration for running these synths/samplers. As we tried valiantly to help out various end users configure their PC's to run these synths/samplers smoothly, we slowly realized that the best solution would be to create a low-cost, high performance PC that would allow musicians to concentrate on creating music instead of pulling their hair out trying to get these software packages to work right on a near infinite combination of PC hardware.
Our goals were thus:
1. Make it as easy as possible for any user to open up a box, take out a PC, turn it on, and start using it.
2. Make sure the PC performance was thoroughly optimized.
3. Make it affordable!
4. Make it reliable.
5. Make it as portable and compact as possible.
To this end we spent a year and a half developing the original Musi-Can. This wasn't slapped together like a lot of other so-called "professional" PC systems. We actually spent a lot of time while under development using it in a realistic music production environment, composing and arranging with the Musi-Can, taking lots of measurements, and qualifying the underlying hardware for use as a synth/sampler PC. We also gathered input from working musicians about what they wanted in a PC system.
The result of that research is seen in the current Two-Can64: a compact 2U rack PC that has been maxed out for both specs and performance, is very affordable, and works with both Windows machines and Macs. And now we're able to make this great machine available to you!
Please, contact us if you have question, suggestions, or comments. We're always striving to improve our products
Sincerely,
Coyote R&D
