NetMIDI

Q. How do the NetMIDI drivers work?
A. Each MIDI output port on every Two-Can64 visible on your network shows up as a standard MIDI output port on your machine. For Windows and OS X clients, this happens automatically.

Q. What are the latency and jitter levels for the transmitted MIDI data?
A. Latency and jitter are highly dependent on the quality of your Ethernet interface card and its drivers, plus how many switches or hubs you go through on your network. For a directly connected system through a crossover network cable, the latency is as low as 1.5ms (measured as the difference from the simultaneous MIDI output from your computer to the audio out on the Coyote R&D system), and jitter levels are usually around 1ms.

Q. How many MIDI ports do the NetMIDI drivers support?
A. Each server can support as many as 256 individual MIDI output ports. So if you had two Coyote R&D systems on your network, you could show up to 512 MIDI output ports on your client computer through the NetMIDI drivers.

Q. Can I install the NetMIDI drivers on any client computer?
A. Yes. The NetMIDI client drivers will install on any machine with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP or Macintosh OS 8.x-9.x and OS X.

Q. Will I be able to see my other computer's MIDI ports if I install the NetMIDI server drivers on them?
A. No. The NetMIDI drivers communicate only with the Two-Can64.

Q. Can I copy the NetMIDI drivers that are on the Two-Can64 to my other computers?
A. No. The NetMIDI drivers are specially coded for maximum performance on Coyote R&D hardware. Copying those drivers and trying to run them on any other pc will most likely cause it to crash.

Q. Will my MIDI data be broadcast all over the Internet?
A. No! MIDI data is only transmitted as far as your local subnet. Each MIDI data network packet can only make one hop, so you won't be able to send any data across a router. This prevents it from reaching the Internet.

Q. Does this mean I can't jam with my buddies over the Internet?
A. You can't send any MIDI data to anyone on the Internet.

Q. Can I use a normal MIDI interface if I want to?
A. Yes. We offer M-Audio MIDI interfaces for the Two-Can64 and you can use any of the soundcard MIDI ports too (if available).

Remote Control software

Q. Do I need to have a monitor, mouse, or keyboard on my Two-Can64 if I want to use the remote control software?
A. No. All you need to do is to connect your system to your LAN (Local Area Network).

Q. If I use the remote control software, will I be unable to hook up a monitor, mouse, or keyboard to my Coyote R&D system?
A. You can use both the remote control software and any monitor, mouse, or keyboard hooked up to your system at the same time.

Q. How does the remote control software work?
A. Each Two-Can64 comes pre-installed with a remote control server. You must install the remote control client software on your machine (available for both PC and Mac) to connect to the server. After you run our installer software, the remote control viewer will pop up automatically any time you open a NetMIDI port. This will happen whenever you start up a sequencer program that selects a NetMIDI port. Also, you can manually start the remote control viewer and type in the system address or name if you want. Only one window for each system will pop up, so if you start your sequencer after manually starting the remote control viewer, no additional windows will pop up afterwards. You can also install the viewer on multiple systems and each system will independently control the Two-Can64.

Q. Will people be able to control my Two-Can64 from the Internet?
A. No. You would have to specifically configure your router/firewall to allow outside connections from other remote control viewer software to come in and access your system. This is not recommended.

Q. How do I shutdown my Two-Can64?
A. You can shut it down like any Windows system -- either click on the Start button and select "Shutdown" or just push the power switch. Windows will then automatically shutdown.

Recovery CD

Q. Will the Restore and Recover CD erase all the samples I've stored on my systems?
A
. No. You must specifically select full format and restore (or Initialize Partition) to erase everything. Earlier versions of the Restore and Recover CD have four levels of restore. The first level restores only the Windows registry files, the second level restores the Windows registry and system files, the third level restores all the factory installed files on the hard drive, and the fourth level reformats the hard drive before restoring all the factory installed files. Only the fourth level will erase your samples. Each level must be explicitly selected before any restoration action is taken. The latest version of the Restore and Recover DVD has three selections: Fix Boot Record; Initialize Partition; Restore All Files. Only "Initialize Partition" will erase the boot drive.

Q. If I accidentally leave the Restore and Recover CD in the drive, will it automatically format my hard drive?
A. No. The default on the original Restore and Recover CD if you leave it in the DVD/CD-ROM drive is for it to reboot after 30 seconds. The latest version will just boot to the Windows desktop.

Q. How do I use the Restore and Recover CD?
A. You must first hook up a monitor and keyboard (and optionally, a mouse) to the Two-Can64 you want to restore. Then you put the Recovery and Restore CD in the DVD/CD-ROM drive and reboot the system. When the Recovery and Restore CD boots up, it will present you with a menu (original) or icons (new version) that allows you to select the restore you want. Everything after that is automatic.

General

Q. Can I order a Two-Can64 with special hardware options that aren't listed on your order page.
A. You can order a Two-Can64 with any audio card or MIDI interface you prefer. Please contact us for details. Any specially ordered Two-Can64 is NOT returnable.

Q. Can I order a system with a different processor/motherboard/etc.?
A. No. Each Coyote R&D component has been specially selected to provide the best balance overall for noise, heat, performance, and cost, therefore we do not have other configurations available.

Q. Can I order a Two-Can64 with any software synthesizers or samplers other than that listed in your store?
A. Yes. Please contact us for details.

Q. I'd like to endorse your products. What kind of deal can you give me?
A. We here at Coyote R&D want to deal with our customers as honestly as possible. Endorsements deals, while they are great advertisements, aren't truly honest. After much deliberation and thought, we finally decided against doing endorsement deals. We'd rather have customers who are truly happy with our products give us their uncompensated testimonials because they believe in our products. We think that real-world, working musicians telling you their true experience with our products is the best advertising possible!

Q. Can I install any software or operating systems I want on my Two-Can64?
A
. You can install any software you like. However there is NO tech support for user added software. We only provide tech support for software that is preinstalled at the factory.

Q. What is your return policy?
A
. We allow returns for up to 30 days from the date of purchase for any Coyote R&D system that is DOA (dead-on-arrival) or that has had any parts fail. Just return the entire package including all wires, cables, manuals, and included materials and we'll be happy to refund your entire purchase amount including shipping*. If the system you return has been disassembled, damaged, or is missing any parts, your purchase amount will be deducted for the replacement value of the parts PLUS a restocking fee of 20% before it is refunded to you, no exceptions.
*U.S. customers only. International customers will not be refunded shipping charges.

Q. What about after 30 days?
A
. Our full one year parts and labor limited warranty protects you in the event that your Coyote R&D system should fail. Just ship us back your system and we will either repair it or replace it at our discretion. This does not cover any Coyote R&D system that has been misused or abused (dropped, run over, struck, hit by a power surge, etc.), disassembled, subjected to environmental extremes (left out in the rain, snow, salt air, etc.), or affected by acts of God (lighting, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.). Please see our complete warranty for details.
